Help them learn how to manage their time and priorities.

On the topic of time management, author and speaker Steven Covey said “the key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

As your student starts at UCF or begins another year here, they will have to adjust to new expectations and commitments. They are in the driver’s seat here and should learn to manage their time on their own. Encourage your student to use a planner, agenda, or digital calendar to organize their day-to-day activities. Developing time management skills early on in their college careers is essential to ensure they are successful while at UCF.

Questions to start the conversation:

• What time management techniques worked well for you in high school/at your previous institution?
• How do you plan on balancing your commitments when things get busy?
• Who will you go to for support in managing your time?
• What things might you need to “let go” of in order to better manage your time in the college environment?
