UCF Recreation and Wellness Center Prepares for Reopening with focus on Student Safety and Innovative Programs  
The next phase of the RWC reopening combines limited hours, physical distancing measures, creative programming, and new cleaning procedures  

(Orlando, FL) – The UCF Recreation and Wellness Center and RWC @ Downtown is reopened for students. Each facility will have limited hours for students and paying members to work out and will feature new safety and check-in procedures to help comply with COVID-19 guidelines at UCF.

Each facility will began fall 2020 hours on Monday August 24th. The hours of operations are:

  • RWC:
    • Monday – Friday: 7am – 1pm and 4pm – 10pm (closed 1pm – 4pm for cleaning)
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10am – 2pm and 4pm – 10pm (closed 2pm – 4pm for cleaning)
  • RWC @ Downtown
    • Monday – Friday: 12pm – 6pm
    • Saturday – Sunday: Closed

Students and members must sign a Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Waiver before entering. The waiver is available on the app and at rec.ucf.edu now and lasts one year. All users will utilize the RWC app for touchless access to the facility through a barcode scanner.

The RWC will also feature a new reservation system. Students can make reservations no more than 24 hours in advance up to one hour prior to their visit. Students are limited to one reservation per day and can only work out for one hour. Students may not arrive any earlier than ten minutes prior to a reservation and reservations will be canceled (or forfeited) 15 minutes after the reservation time. Students and paying members will need to bring a photo ID to verify their reservation. Users who show up early will not be permitted into the facility. Students can make reservations starting Thursday, August 20th.

Programming and equipment will look a little different for students this fall to help keep students safe:

  • FitnessPrograms and equipment:
    • Group exercise: virtual classes on RWC+ and in outdoor spaces
    • Strength and cardio equipment: physically distanced on the fitness floor or moved to the basketball courts for student use.
    • Personal Training: virtually on RWC+ and physically distanced at RWC @ Knights Plaza
    • Fitness Assessment Open Hours will not be available
  • Intramural Sports 
    • Esports on RWC+
    • Individual, dual and a variety of skills-based competitions (e.g. Tennis, Disc Golf, Bocce Ball, etc.) will be offered
  • Outdoor Adventure 
    • On-campus (Arboretum, Lake Claire) natural guided activities will be offered.
    • Adventure trips where transportation is provided, will not take place.
    • Contactless gear rental is available, pick up and drop off behind the RWC
  • Sport Clubs & Inclusive Recreation
    • Individual or small group conditioning practices will be permitted with RWC approval.
    • Some individual based sports will be permitted to train (Running, Cycling, etc.) with RWC approval.
    • Team sport practices, travel and competitions will be restricted.
    • Student Assisted Workout program will be offered virtually and physically distanced at Knights Plaza
  • Lap Pool:
    • Limited use to every other lane.
    • Must reserve lanes 24-hours up to an hour an advance.
    • Separate entrance and exit (Gemini Blvd and Ursa Minor Street)
    • Lockers and showers will be restricted (we recommend putting your belongings in a bad at the end of the lane you are using)
  • Risk Management
  • Athletic Training Clinic sessions by appointment only (no walk-ins)
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications will take place.

 

During this phase of reopening the following areas are restricted:

  • RWC @ Knights Plaza
  • RWC @ Ferrell Commons
  • Group Exercise Studios
  • Indoor Multipurpose Courts
  • 2ndfloor Circuit area
  • Climbing Tower
  • Challenge Course
  • Leisure Pool
  • Sand Volleyball Courts

 

The RWC main stairs will serve as the entrance for most students. Students who need accommodations for accessibility purposes can use the front elevator (next to the stairs) and first door closest to the elevator to enter and exit. We have new signage in place to point out entry points and exits. RWC staff will also be available to help with all our new procedures.
